What is it?

Clockwork uConsole is a modular portable Linux terminal that combines a 5-inch IPS display, a backlit QWERTY keyboard, a miniature trackball, and dedicated game controls in an all-metal enclosure. It brings a physical keyboard and a flexible computing platform into a compact handheld format for coding, terminal work, and retro gaming.

Available configurations include a Wi-Fi-equipped kit without a core module, an optional Raspberry Pi CM4 core module, and an optional 4G/LTE expansion module. Choose a coreless Wi-Fi setup, add 4G, select a Wi-Fi + CM4 configuration, or combine Wi-Fi, CM4, and 4G. Matte Black and Matte Silver finishes are available. Core modules and 4G hardware are configuration options, not included in every setup.

Why choose it?

uConsole is designed for people who enjoy using, building, and adapting their own computers. With a suitable core module and software installed, it can serve as a handheld coding machine, a Linux terminal, an email device, a platform for indie game development, or a portable game-emulation system. CM4 configurations draw on the Raspberry Pi ecosystem for software and community support.

The modular design lets you choose a configuration suited to your projects rather than treating the hardware as a sealed appliance. Published schematics, keyboard firmware, and enclosure design files also provide starting points for customization, while the metal construction contributes to passive heat dissipation.

What makes it special?

  • 5-inch HD IPS display: A 1280 × 720 screen balances readability with portability for terminal applications, desktop environments, and game emulators.
  • Backlit QWERTY keyboard: 74 keys with adjustable backlighting for compact, practical text input.
  • Trackball and game controls: A physical miniature trackball with an OK function and two mouse buttons, plus directional keys and four dedicated game buttons.
  • Modular computing platform: A replaceable core-module design with a Raspberry Pi CM4 option using an adapter board. Coreless kits require a compatible core module before they can function as a computer.
  • Wireless connectivity: The platform provides 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0. An optional 4G/LTE expansion module adds cellular connectivity; network compatibility depends on supported bands, SIM, and carrier.
  • Practical interfaces: USB 2.0, a USB-C charging port, microSD slot, Micro-HDMI, and a 3.5mm headphone jack with microphone input support, alongside internal expansion connections. Functionality depends on the selected core and software.
  • 18650 battery system: A holder designed for two 18650 cells, with short-circuit and reverse-polarity protection. Batteries are not included in the standard kit and must be sourced separately.
  • Metal enclosure and color choices: Matte Black or Matte Silver finishes, with a modular assembly design using a 2.5mm hex key.
  • Open-design customization: Schematics, keyboard firmware, and mechanical design materials are published under GPL v3 for development and customization.

Configuration note: Select the desired core-module, connectivity, and color combination. A coreless configuration is not a complete working computer; CM4 and 4G modules are optional rather than standard inclusions.
