What is it?
The monome 16nx is an open-source 16-fader control surface designed for electronic instruments and devices. Building upon the legacy of the original 16n faderbank, the 16nx features sixteen 60mm faders that simultaneously transmit MIDI, CV (0–5V), and I2C signals — allowing you to control everything from monome norns to eurorack modular synthesizers without switching modes.
The “x” denotes this as the second-generation hardware revision (Revision C), completely redesigned for modern component availability while preserving all original functionality. It’s the missing piece for your monome ecosystem — and equally powerful as a standalone MIDI controller, CV source, or I2C device.
Why did you make it?
The original 16n faderbank became indispensable to many electronic musicians, but its core component — the Teensy 3.2 microcontroller — reached end-of-life, making new builds impossible. We created the 16nx to keep this essential instrument available to the community, using currently available, officially recommended components throughout.
We also wanted to create a unified ecosystem of monome-compatible controllers with matching 3D-printed enclosures sharing the same design language — so builders can assemble a complete, cohesive control setup that feels like a single integrated system.
